Lunar Eclipse, Winter Solstice Tuesday 12/21/10

They say it's a rare treat we got just a few days before Christmas, that beautiful site was a lunar eclipe. A lunar eclipe takes place when the sun, Earth and moon are all perfectly aligned with the Earth in the middle. When the moon passes behind the Earth, the sun's rays are blocked from striking the moon. This can only occur when the moon is full.

This year's only lunar eclipse actually coincided with the winter solstice, meaning that the moon will appeared high in the night sky, aiding visibility for revelers.  The total lunar eclipse was a wonderful sight to see.  Here are the photos taken this morning.
