Kim the Soccer Warrior

Photographing female athletes is always thrilling endeavor. I see all athletes as gladiators that go into combat to slay their opponents. So trying to keep the balance between warrior and femininity should be the aim when photographing them. In the series of photos I wanted to use lighting that mostly reserved for men to give the first photo edge and also use lighting to project softness in the remainder of the photos.

Before I forget I would like to thank Kim for being the muse for the day and Kanani for the makeup. We had a short period of time to take a few images before her game. So here's a few images taken during the session.

Will's Portrait Session

During the summer time haze you can get some dramatic color during sunset. In some of the photos will demonstrate what happens when you photograph during the "magic hour". Here are some of my favorite photos take during the portrait session.

MD Renaissance Festival

The Maryland Renaissance Festival is a recreation of a 16th century English village. The village is named Revel Grove, and is set on a beautiful 25-acre wooded site. The village consists of craft and food booths, five pubs, ten major stages, a Jousting Arena and lots of games. I've always been a big fan of the Renaissance era.

There's a lot to do at the Festival. They have performers from all over country that perform on the many stages of the festival and the streets and the wooded area is filled with reenactors that amuse and bring happiness to all. You can watch jousting in full armor, listen to music and choral groups, marvel at the jugglers, become mystified by the magicians, and admire the comely wenches. The streets and stages are filled with nonstop entertainment.

But tell you the truth I go just for the giant turkey legs. It's more novelty then anything else. There's something about the savagery with eating with your hands that makes me feel like I'm reliving renaissance period.

Enough of my babbling and on to some of the pictures taken during the visit.

Photographing Pumpkin

A few weekends ago I had the pleasure and honor of photographing a long time riding buddy's baby. Raymond was so adorable and it was joy watching Raymond’s interaction with his parents. With every click of the shutter I noticed the strong parent baby bond that is seen when babies are with their parents. It was amazing thing to witness and it made me realize how precious spending time with your family is.

A wise man once told me; If you have kids hug them every time you get home from work and tell them how much you love them. Because we don't spend enough time with them and time goes by in a blink of an eye...

I'm sounding a bit mushy. Without farther a due let me present to you some of my favorite photos from the portrait session.

Motorcycle with LEDs

As a motorcycle rider I'm around a lot of bikes, I'm also a photographer. Maybe I should merge the two? In the back of my mind I've been toying with the idea of photographing motorcycles and doing a series on motorcycle art. Maybe working photos like the one below might get me motivated on starting the series.

Ghost Rider

Here's a photo I've been holding out on posting until October. It's an image I've been working on for the Halloween season. I present to you a real life Ghost Rider. So don't afraid when you see the Ghost Rider on the street he is out to do good? As the legend goes...

Ghost Rider was stunt motorcyclist, who, in order to save the life of his mentor, agreed to give his soul to "Satan" (later revealed to be an arch-demon named Mephisto). Instead, his soul bonded with the entity called Zarathos. When utilizing Zarathos' powers Blaze's flesh is consumed by hellfire, causing his head to become a flaming skull. He rides a fiery motorcycle and wields trademark blasts of hellfire from his skeletal hands.

Parasols

A few weekends ago I took pictures at Anh-Chi and Robert's wedding. I met Anh-Chi through her brother Chris. Chris and I have been friends for some time now and it was a pleasure taking photos at the wedding. I try to be eccentric at times and in this blog post I wanted to show case the parasols that were featured in the wedding.

Motion in a Still Photo

I wanted show or display a sense of motion in a still photo. Someone once told me it's about control, the interaction between what you can control and the uncontrollable. Here are some photos that I took that tries to illustrate what I was looking for.

No Cameras Allowed?

My friend Sara and I where at the Inner Harbor in Baltimore to take photos for my friend Chris' Birthday Party but  we ran into a snag. The Power Plant Live's armed guards wouldn't allow us to in with our cameras into the establishment. So, after stubbing upon the road block we decided to get something to eat at the Hard Rock Cafe. Since we where here we decide to put our cameras to use.  Here are a few photos taken that evening.

Public Service Announcement.  Great idea pulled together by fellow photog, Jeremy Cowart, that he ran with first over at Scott Kelby's blog and then followed at Help-Portrait.com.

We don't need to know the details here, but if you are planning to help, say so here. It will inspire others to do the same. I plan to help. Will you?

Wedding at the Eastern Yacht Club 9/5/09

I would like to thank William Niebauer and Sara Marti for allowing me to come. It was a wonderful day to be on the shores of the Chesapeake Bay at The Eastern Yacht Club in Essex, MD. Here is a preview of the images from that day. Enjoy...

Not every group can pull is pose off so it shouldn't be used every time when shooting a wedding:

Congratulations Laura and Michael!
